The walk begins in the small
village of Norton-Juxta-Twycross.at the Moores Arms.
From the Inn, cross over the
road and follow the sign for the footpath. The path
turns into a vehicle track to Main Street. Once
there, look for Chapel Lane.
At the end of the lane, take
the footpath at the left of a white house, follow
the path and climb the stile into a field. Walk the
length and go over a wire fence then climb a stile
at the far left corner.
At the road, turn right to
Twycross Zoo.
Turn left at the crossroads
signed to Orton.
You will pass a farm on the
right, look for a footpath sign and go through a
metal gate on the right.
Turn left in the field, and
look for a gap in the hedge on the left about 100
yards away. Go through the gap and cross the field
to a stile.
Maintain the heading alongside
a hedge to a stile and waymark post. Take the
arrowed direction across a field to a bridge over a
ditch.
Follow the right-hand hedge
and field border then veer right to reach a lane.
Turn left and head downhill towards Austrey.
At the road junction, turn
right and keep to the right of the inn.
Watch for a footpath on the
right by a house called the ‘Farthings’.
The path goes left to the rear
of the houses to a farm road. Cross to the opposite
stile.
Bear right aiming to the right
of houses to reach a lane.
Turn right and climb Appleby
Hill. Just pas the drive of Hill Farm, a bridleway
is signed down a cart track. Pass by a water tower
and follow right-hand hedges.
Descend to a road. Turn right.
Take care as this is a busy highway.
At a crossroads turn left
